DEAR aLL,

THERE was general agreement to putting Saturday’s cancelled session onto MARCH 17TH … and I’ve only had one person so far say they can’t do that -and as there were quite a few who couldn’t do Feb 4th I am hopeful that we should have a good turn out and at least we are unlikely to be snowed of. SO THAT IS IS GOING IN THE DIARY

2. VERY URGENT REQUEST FOR IMMEDIATE REPLY …
I have felt a sense of urgency re the Cantata which I feel may be detracting from our enjoyment of it and that’s missing the point of SONGLINES so I made a well received proposal to do the main show ONE MONTH LATER ON SATURDAY JUNE 16TH … the Chapel is CURRENTLY unbooked on that day BUT they will need a payment from me to secure it before FRIDAY as there are other enquiries for that date… I was loosing 3-4 singers for MAY 12TH due to student exams and other commitments – many people felt that JUNE suited them better and gave us the opportunity of doing a RESIDENTIAL in MAY ( weekend of 12th ) which is likely to be better weather – so we’d keep the APRIL 21ST day as a London based day of full run throughs.

please let me know ASAP if you can commit to JUNE 16TH

IF IT TURNS OUT THAT MANY CAN’T I’LL STICK TO THE ORIGINAL DATE .

ALERT! ALERT! Saturday Rehearsal Cancelled!! (plus some amendments to Cantata Songs)

A quick post to confirm that due to several circumstances Sarah has had to cancel this  Saturday’s (4th February 2012) Joint rehearsal.

  • There have also been some amendments made to the Cantata Songs.
  •  New versions of ‘Best Seas – Seconds and Tops’
  •  ’You and I know -Tops & Whole choir’
  •  ’Cold is the Dawn – Tune’

These have replaced the old ones.

Many thanks to Sara (Hall) who made these recordings at Harecourt with the Wednesday Grils (sic) on February 1st.

Joint Rehearsal (with musicians) – Saturday 4th February (The Nave)

The Songs to be covered at this joint rehearsal are:

  • The Best Seas
  • Cold is the Dawn
  • Today is Sunday
  • For 100 Years
  • You and I know (My Darling)
  • Possibly some of the Overture (like Kerem)

The rehearsal will take place at THE NAVE between 14:30 and 18:30 on Saturday 4th February 2012 – this will be confirmed by Sarah in the next couple of days.

Just a quick reminder that all classes this term will be held at Harecourt URC Hall 120 St Pauls Road , Highbury N1 2LR .
Tomorrow is of course a payday… for 6 weeks = £54 OR £42 CONC. MONDAYS MIXED CHOIR 6.45-9 WEDNESDAYS 7-9.15.

New singers do not pay for their opening taster session so if you decide to go for it and join us – and I very much hope you enjoy your first class –  we will be collecting your payment next week for 5 weeks £45 OR £35 . After class I will spend a few minutes with the first timers to get some feedback and give you some useful information about being part of Songlines .

I will be giving out date sheets and all fixed events will be going up on the Songlines calender on TUESDAY along with recordings of new parts but if you have a portable recorder please bring it along as your own copies will be much more valuable – and portable!

None of them will be perfect  … that’s fine, its a party singalong – not a gig but you can’t have words on stage, its against Songlines official policy! If you don’t know a song at all, don’t worry – sit it out , but if it’s a Cantata piece you might as well try to learn it cos you’re gonna have to!

THE DAY ITSELF
GET IN IS at 4PM to prepare the Hall and PA
all choir rehearsal 4.30 – 6pm, then we will have an hour to get food and ourselves ready – there’s plenty of warm spaces to change in side rooms . You really must try to get there for 4PM-  without this 1.5 hr session. with both Mon and Weds choirs singing together for the first time in months, I think we would all be very insecure to sing in public and not have half as much fun doing it.

You are supplying the food , ready to serve on a platter , suitable for fingers only as there is no kitchen at the Nave. We’ll be passing a paper round for you to write your offering up so that whatevers’ missing from the Monday menu, can be filled in by the Wednesdays! Chris and I will supply the plates/napkins/crockery/ glasses etc  and the gorgeous galloping GORDON AND GAIL  (or Fanny and John Craddock?….how very dare you! ) are running the bar. We’ll have wines/beers/soft drinks /juices and mulled wine – and I’d like 3 volunteers to be in charge of making and serving it PLEASE EMAIL me YES BOSS if you are willing to take this on.

TICKETS …As we have only actually sold 11 tickets so far I have had to cancel the musicians I booked for the party to play with/for us Sorry, but we haven’t any money to pay them! Even so the party will still run at a considerable loss if you don’t start ringing round mates and family. I think I can honestly say nobody ( unless they are having a major personal breakdown on the night ) has EVER not enjoyed a SONGLINES PARTY … its something we are VERY good at so get on the phone PLEASE ! We are not able to SELL tickets on the door as legally this is a private function but of course you can pop outside and hand tickets over to your guests until 7.30 and collect the money of them personally . Please make sure you get ALL MONEY to Chris on the night though as our last class before Christmas is A joint weds and MONDAY ON MONDAY 19TH 6.45-8.45 ( we will be singing through the Cantata so far and fixing the overture with NICK BB and possibly Kate ) We do not want to be chasing you for party/class money in January.

2012 TERM BEGINS AGAIN ON SATURDAY JANUARY 14TH 2-6 at the Union Chapel with a workshop on the new material for the Cantata with the musicians  - NORMAL CLASS TIMES FOLLOW AFTER THAT both MON and WEDS at Harecourt ( not The Nave )  MON 16TH/WEDS 18TH . It doesn’t look like we will have enough mixed choir members to divide into mon/tues and certainly not until half term in February .

The big Cantata Date at The Union Chapel May 12th … I am hoping to do a press night and invited audience preview on Monday 7th and Full dress in The Chapel on Wednesday 9th May  so this will be a very busy week for Songliners but its a BIG show and we need to get it right .  You can take a week of the following week!
