Reviews

On the 24thFebruary 2007 we had our 10th anniversary concert at the Union Chapel. We all had a fantastic time and so did many of our guests, to judge by some of the reviews which you can read below:

I have had the privilege of being a member of Songlines for over 7 years. I love our regular practice sessions; the less regular times when we all get together leading up to a performance; the excitement of performing together in public; and the ridiculous amount of fun we have at parties and when we go on holidays together either camping in the UK or some fabulous Turkish location. For me Songlines is an active community of people from all walks of life who come together with the common aim of wanting to create harmony in their lives through the medium of singing together. It is a place where we can be our full self expression of who we are for ourselves and each other in the world. There is something very special about creating something with a group of people that is not about any one individual; magic happens when we forget ourselves and tune into each other such that our single voice is a part of the whole – "If you are only aware of your own voice when singing in the choir, you are not singing with the choir" is something I seem to remember our musical director Sarah Jewell saying once or twice. The art of singing songs from all over the world with others in harmony allows me the possibility of giving up my individual identity in a world dominated by individual opinions and justifications. Participating in Songlines satisfies what I think are the three key areas of living a fully self-expressed life: Art – the act of creating and making something real; Community – love and affinity being present in a group of people; and Spirituality – something beyond what I think I know or believe is possible.

‘I just wanted to let you know that Marc and I really enjoyed the concert on Saturday. The choir made such a wonderful sound and the harmonies!! Beautiful. The fantastic venue was the icing on the cake. I’d be tempted to test your musical director patience and join if I didn’t live so far away. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
